About This Game Dwarf Tower is a turn-based tactics game of tower building and spellcasting. Each turn you develop your tower by placing blocks, constructing rooms, and play various spells. Your tower can have Libraries (store spells), Crystals (generate mana), Dwarf Dwellings (give you dwarves to repair the tower) and some other rooms. The crucial room is Archmage's Chamber. It's position is hidden from enemy and you must protect it at all costs, or you will lose. Room scheme is very important: the higher you place it, the more powerful it gets. Higher tower gets tremendous advantage over the lower one. But beware of Lightning strike! It can start a fire that will destroy the whole tower in several turns, so keep Dwarf Firefighters ready. Some rooms work much better underground, but there is a risk of flood! The overall goal of the game match is to destroy the enemy's Archmage's Chambers by crushing, burning or flooding it. It's not that simple however, because enemy will do his best to destroy your Archmage at the same time! The game features single player mode against the computer as well as multiplayer mode. It is usually a quick game with a match lasting on average 5-10 minutes (though I have experienced an hour and a half match, very fun). The games mechanics allow for some very funny situations as you scream and cheer at unexpected results of your rats, dynamite or lightning strike. All in all worth its price, even more so with a friend.. OK, let's get the bad out of the way first: This game feels unfinished, like it should have been labeled Early Access. The tutorial is quickly useless because it tells you to make a move that you can't make, and you can't skip past that part. There are little annoyances like a lack of a volume control and a user interface that is more complicated than it has to be. Worst of all, it's a two player game, and right now your only options are a computer opponent who is astonishingly easy to defeat once you figure out the basics or hoping that there's someone online waiting to play (and you have the perserverance to sit there watching a fullscreen window with nothing happening until someone does decide to play, as I don't think there's any special sound to alert you when a game starts, and if you alt=tab away you could miss the whole thing). The developer participates in the Steam forums, though, so hopefully he'll address these problems in an update soon, But then there are the good things: The basic rules are somewhat easy to learn but reveal extra complexity as you play. There's the simple pleasure of setting up blocks to build your tower the way you want and the fun of knocking your opponent's blocks down. There's also strategy, including deciding whether to build defensively or to push your luck by stretching your tower out to great heights and depths in order to increase the power of the effects of the rooms you build... and thereby making an easy target to get the structure blown to bits and come tumbling down. The price is relatively inexpensive, which means even if you have to get an extra copy to give to a friend to ensure you have someone to play against it won't be too painful. At first I didn't think I liked this game, what with the various problems mentioned above. But I ended up saying "just one more gane" over and over until I realized I had played for several hours. If they ever fix the computer opponent's programming to be more challenging it will be a great solo game, but until then you'll want to find someone else to play against, because that's when the real fun begins.. It could be very nice game but...1. I am unable to loose with AI - never lost single game!2. Play time is to short I am able to beat AI very very early.3. Multiplayer - missing players unable to find anyone who plays.It could be very nice game if not above issues.If you can buy this for 1 USD then I advice you to try it because its fun ... but not challange.. TL;DR: I can only recommend this game to people who want to play with their friends.The game isn't entirely intuitive, so I recommend playing through the tutorial. Some card descriptions aren't clear, and I had to play the tutorial to fully understand them. Once I did, winning strategies became obvious, and it appears that the AI doesn't follow them closely or consistently, so it's easy to win every solo game.Since it's really easy to beat the AI opponent every time, this game depends heavily on multiplayer. Online multiplayer looks pretty much dead, so you need a friend who's willing to play with you. If you have one, buy the two pack and you'll get your money's worth, even if you can't get it on discount.There's an annoying UI bug currently that prevents you from seeing your attacks hit the enemy tower because when the view zooms in, your tower is still in the way. You can get around it by scrolling up with your mouse wheel (hope you have one!) to zoom in whenever the camera goes in to observe an attack. I haven't been able to convince any of my friends to join me for a game yet, but I don't regret my purchase, so I won't say solo players should avoid it. Just don't expect a challenge without a human opponent.. This game is so broken that the tutorial is literally impossible to pass. Feels like it shouldn't be a fully released game.. After the upgrade to Windows 10 the game happened to work no idea why. The game is fun and the multiplayer is certainly something to look into. Simple to learn, although some of the spells didn't make sense right away. ***OLD***Would be happy to recommend this game if it were playable. As soon as I launch the game, there is nothing but a black screen. Windowed mode makes it completely disappear. The music plays and thats it.
